Meet the Maker

Emma Marie

I started oil painting around 2017 by following online tutorials and buying a few books. By 2019, I started selling prints and taking on commissions while working full-time. I was feeling pretty unfulfilled and undervalued at my previous jobs. I worked hard to pay off debts, save up, and create a decent body of work. By 2020, I was completely self-employed. It was pretty hectic, but with the help of friends and an awesome art community, I was able to continue to make a living doing what I love.

The product process

I I usually start by gathering a few references. A lot of my works are commissions, so references are often provided to me by clients. Then I paint the piece carefully in black and white. Once that's dry, I'll build up colors layer by layer. My paints are mixed with various mediums through my painting process. Once it is complete, I send the painting to a print shop to be scanned. The files can then be provided to various other companies to have prints, magnets, cards, etc. produced. Currently make my handmade clothing in my home!
