Pop-Local was founded in 2020 by shop owner Jessica Chan & her dog Sumo (both seen walking in the mural) with the mission to fuel independent businesses, connect the community, and inspire a greater local economy. This Pop-Local art piece was brought to life in 2021, pairing Chan’s vision of capturing Vancouver’s rich history and culture with the talent and creativity of artist Collin Schlicht.

Located along the north shore of the Columbia River and just across the bridge from Portland, Oregon, Vancouver is a beautiful city that boasts a culture rich in history, music and art. Vancouver is a hip city with microbreweries, wineries, and an ever-growing food scene, while also situated only a short drive from backcountry wilderness for those who enjoy the great outdoors!

Artist Collin Schlicht finds inspiration from Vancouver, Washington’s city motto, “A colorful past, a bright future.”

  • Native American Tribes in Vancouver

    Native American Tribes in Vancouver

Ages before the terms Native American or Indian were considered, the tribes were spread all over the Americas. Before any white man set foot on this land, it was settled by the forefathers of bands we now call Sioux, or Cherokee, or Iroquois.

For centuries, the American Indian developed its culture and legacy without disturbance. And that history is fascinating.

From Mayan and Incan ruins, from the mounds left in the central and southern parts of what is today the U.S. we have learned plenty. It’s a tale of beautiful artwork and deep spirituality.
